Music at Special Events
Over the course of my life, I have attended and seen many special events such as proms, weddings, and baptisms. At all of them, I have noticed some common themes and also a few differences. To begin, weddings and baptisms usually have a live piano, harp, or classical music playing in the background. The mood is usually uninformed, joyous, and elegant to set the tone for the glorious happening that is about to take place. It could usually change depending upon what is taking place at the time. For example, most of the weddings that I have been to would also play “Here Comes the Bride'' as she walks down the aisle. When the audience hears the song they know what is about to happen and stands up to honor the bride. In addition, my church also plays praise and worship songs as an introduction to draw in the audience. During my baptism, my church played a beautiful instrumental to signify that a person was getting ready to become baptized and an upbeat melody in celebration. The choir would continue the chorus of a song they were singing. I really feel like this setup fits because the style of music correlates with the atmosphere of the events. During the reception, peaceful instrumental music or slow music with words is normally played. The proms I have been to usually played popular music heard on Tik Tok and older music from example the 80s and early 2000s. Instrumental music could be played during the partner dance section of the event but from my example usual songs like Perfect by Ed Sheeran or All of Me by John Legend. On February, twenty-six, twenty twenty-two, I attended the 1889s week dance hosted by the school. The dance had a live, old-school-sounding band singing older and newer songs. This is the first formal I have been to where there was a live band. I believe it was wonderful because the old timeliness in their style and the fact that it was live really set the tone for that night. When the band was taking a break, the school played more modern-sounding music on the sound system.
Here is another beautiful song I heard played at a prom that I attended for a slow dance part.
I enjoyed reading your blog and learning about various rituals and events you have attended. I also went to formal last week, and really enjoyed it. you were right on about the slow dance music at prom. I'm pretty sure my school played the exact same songs when I went to prom. I also enjoyed listening to the song you shared.
